A woman has been praised for her courage in coming forward to ensure her rapist faces jail time. Poole man Kieron Gibson, aged 25, has been jailed for more than seven years at Bournemouth Crown Court after admitting to seven counts of rape and one count of attempted rape towards the same victim.
In March 2021, Gibson’s victim reported a series of non-recent rapes committed by Gibson. She reported she had also been sexually assaulted by the defendant on numerous occasions and provided messages from Gibson that appeared to relate to the sexual assaults.
Following an investigation by detectives from Bournemouth CID, Gibson was subsequently charged and appeared at court. He pleaded guilty to eight offences and today (November 17) was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
Detective Constable Chloe Riley, of Bournemouth CID praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward and aiding police officers through the investigation. She said: “I want to thank the victim in this case for the immense courage she has shown in coming forward to report these offences and for the support she has provided throughout our investigation.
“Through her brave actions, we were able to compile evidence and hold Kieron Gibson to account for these despicable offences.
“Both myself and the victim in this case hope this helps to inspire other victims of rape and sexual offences to find the strength to come forward and report matters to police in the knowledge that they will be fully supported by specially trained officers and that we will thoroughly investigate the offences.”
