Fortes Café Italia, at the back of the Mowlem Theatre, wants to install a new aluminium shop front to replace and upgrade the existing timber structure.
It says the new shop front, if allowed, will be more being thermally efficient and in the style of the more modern shop fronts adjoining, which the business also runs.
It also says the change will make the Café Italia more accessible with a level threshold for those in wheelchairs and using walking aids.
