Comedian pops in to local pub after Dorset gig – and stays until closing time

Irish comedian and actor Ed Byrne was performing at the Weymouth Pavilion – and what better way for him to celebrate the show than with a pint at a local boozer.

Following the gig, real ale fan Ed popped along with a couple of friends to the Globe Inn, East Street.

It’s not the first time the comic has enjoyed a pint in the town – before a show in 2022 he had a beer at the Belvedere.

This time however he made a night of it and stayed at the Globe until closing time.

Steve Brown, who was working behind the bar that night, explained he didn’t realise the comedian was there straight away.

Mr Brown said: “I was shocked to see him really. The whole atmosphere seemed to change as soon as everyone knew he was there. He was really chatty and welcoming.

“He took time out from his friends and made it a really good night.”

As it was a Sunday, the barman explained that there were ‘a lot of regulars in the pub and Ed was happy to pose for photos with them all and shook their hands.’

Ed sat and chatted with locals for a while around one of the tables in the venue.

Landlady of the Globe Selina Richardson, added: “It was lovely to hear he popped in. He’s a normal person just like us. We have had a few bands come in in the past when they have performed a show at the Pavilion.”

The TV favourite has appeared on the likes of QI, Alan Davies As Yet Untitled, and Live At The Apollo.

Ed is also a regular guest on The Panel, HeadJam, Mock the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

The comedian has a career spanning almost three decades, and his Weymouth performance entitled Ed Byrne: Tragedy Plus Time saw Ed perform material from his Best Reviewed Show at the 2023 Edinburgh Festival, British Comedy Guide’s No 1 Comedy show of 2023.

It is described as his most personal work to date, sensitively exploring themes of grief and loss.
