Guest house bids for alcohol licence

The Trillberry Guest House, at 9 Waterloo Place, is seeking permission to offer wine alongside evening meals as part of an enhanced service for visitors.

The application, submitted by owners Matthew and Claire Rowberry, outlines plans to operate a bar area adjacent to the dining room, with alcohol available daily from 12pm to 11pm.

The guest house says the licence would only cover the supply of alcohol for consumption on the premises.

In their application, the Rowberrys emphasised their commitment to responsible service, stating that alcohol would not be served to children or anyone attempting to purchase it on their behalf. They also pledge to maintain a quiet environment, with noise restrictions and guest conduct rules included in the welcome pack.

“We would like to provide an extra service to our customers as many have asked about a bar,” the couple wrote in their submission to Dorset Council for the licence: “The guest house under its previous name ‘The Molineux’ had one many years ago, but I believe the last tenants allowed it to lapse.”

The application includes measures to promote public safety, including a fire plan and first aid training for both owners, who have military backgrounds. The guest house also plans to liaise with Dorset Police and join the local Pub Watch scheme.

If approved, the licence would also allow for extended hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, with alcohol service running until 2am.

The application is currently under review by Dorset Council.
